Stake money for Harness Racing is on an ever-increasing upward spiral with over $32.1m up for grabs in Victoria alone in 2005/06, representing a 10% increase from the previous year’s stake offering.

With over 4,000 races programmed and an average of 9 starts per horse throughout the racing year, there are plenty of opportunities to share in the money on offer.

The big races of the Harness Racing calendar are:
 
٠ $500,000 Hankook Tyres Hunter Cup - the richest handicap race in the world conducted in February each year at Moonee Valley as the highlight of the Hankook Tyres Hunter Cup Carnival
 
٠ $300,000 SEW-Eurodrive Victoria Cup - 'The Purists Race', where the best race the best on equal terms from a random barrier behind the mobile. Conducted each year in late December as the highlight of the SEW-Eurodrive Victoria Cup Carnival.
 
٠ $150,000 Alabar Victoria Derby - the pinnacle of the 3yo racing season conducted on Night 1 of the Hankook Tyres Hunter Cup Carnival.
 
٠ $200,000 Sky Channel Inter Dominion Trotters Championship - run on alternate years to the $150,000 Australian Trotting Grand Prix.
 
٠ $150,000 Australasian Trotting Grand Prix - run on alternate years to the Sky Channel Inter Dominion Trotters Championship.

The minimum metropolitan stake at Moonee Valley is $15,000, while the minimum country stake is $4,500. There are also some restricted (picnic style) meetings with $2,000 races.
