Selecting A Trainer

Selecting a trainer is probably the most important decision you will make at the outset. His or her judgment and expertise will be invaluable both now and in the future and its best to choose your trainer before you buy a horse.
When you select a trainer, you’re getting a manager, advisor and expert. The trainer will make the day-to-day decisions that will have a direct bearing on your investment.
Trainers come in different ranges of experience, quality, cost and performance. The right choice is very important and you should try to find out as much information about your potential trainer as possible.
Many owners find trainers through a referral from someone they know who owns or races a harness horse, whilst some simply choose a trainer who has enjoyed success in the past.

After you have done your research on trainers and talked to informed people, you should have a good indication of the type of trainer that will best suit your needs and personality.
Then once you have selected a trainer, trust their judgment. If you hire a mechanic, you certainly wouldn’t tell them how to fix your car.
