Risks Of Ownership

While the rewards are many, there are risks associated with ownership as well because horses of any variety are not cheap to own. You can increase your odds of success with careful selection of horses and having a highly skilled trainer, but there are still many variables beyond human control.
Horses get sick and injured and can be out of racing and training for extended periods of time. After sickness or injury, a horse may not regain previous ability or may not be able to race at all.
A horse with excellent conformation and breeding and the best of trainers may simply not have the ability to match. A horse with all the heart in the world may have chronic lameness or just be plain old slow. He’s giving all he’s got, but it’s just not enough.
These factors need to be considered as part of any ownership decision.
