Lisa Miles

The husband and wife combination of David and Lisa Miles are the latest trainers to come on board with Raceapacer. Based at Monegeetta, about 40 minutes from Melbourne, the Miles stable have been producing quality horses for more than a decade, however the past few seasons have really seen them come to the forefront of trainers of both pacers and trotters.

Lisa is the official trainer at the Miles stable and she comes from a family steeped in Harness Racing tradition. She is the granddaughter of Alf Simons who was the trainer and driver of many champion horses including Inter Dominion winner Bold David. She is the daughter of Betty Lewis, one of the trailblazers for lady drivers and trainers.

They have always had a good horse or two in their stable but the past few years have been breakout years for the Miles stable, culminating in the Breeders Crown victory of Led Suitcase last season.

David and Lisa have always been keen buyers at the yearling sales and usually manage to select a good horse on a limited budget. This is not down to luck as both spend many hours pre-sale inspecting yearlings and poring over pedigrees. Some of their astute purchases include the Group One winners Led Suitcase and Villagem.

They are also avid breeders and have bred the Group One winner Whitten and Group One placegetters Dottie Hinson, Aftanoondelite and Staghorn Flat.

 

In 2009, Lisa won the Vin Knight Medal joining other Harness Racing identities such as Gavin Lang, Chris Alford, Kerryn Manning etc on this prestigious medal's honour roll.

Their stable currently consists of Australia's most improved pacer and the 'New Kid On The Block', the three time Group One winner Villagem.

Away from the track, their hands are kept full looking after son and stable foreman Alfie and David can hit a mean golf ball if time permits.
